F.E. Admission 2010-11 FAQs 1. What is Xavier Institute of Engineering? Is it a Jesuit Institution? Xavier Institute of Engineering (XIE) is an Engineering College and it is an unaided Minority Institute (Roman Catholic) established in the year 2005 by the Society of Jesus (Jesuit Fathers). Yes, it is a Jesuit Institution and a sister institution of St. Xavier’s College, Mumbai, managed by the Jesuits of Bombay Province. XIE is approved by the AICTE (All India Council for Technical Education, New Delhi), is affiliated to the University of Mumbai and recognized by DTE (Directorate of Technical Education, Maharashtra). At XIE, ethics and values add intellectual and spiritual strength to the educational environment. This is the Jesuit Advantage. 2. Where is XIE located? XIE is located in Mahim West, Mumbai. It is a 10-minute walk from Mahim Railway Station. It is conveniently connected to the major arterial roads in Mumbai namely Mahim Causeway, Eastern Express Highway and Western Express Highway. 3. Which are the branches available at XIE? XIE offers 3 branches of Engineering Degree Courses (B.E) of 4-year duration i.e.:- a) Electronics & Telecommunication Engineering (EXTC) b) Computer Engineering (CE) c) Information Technology (IT) 4. What are the eligibility criteria for admissions to F.E at XIE? XIE strictly follows the criterion given by Directorate of Technical Education, Maharashtra State.Please refer to their F.E. Please visit our website www.xavierengg.com and follow the given instructions. 6. Is XIE a part of “CAP” (Centralized Admission Process)? 29% seats are reserved for the CAP admission rounds. Refer to the CAP brochure as and when it is published. However, you should independently apply to the college also. 7. Can I apply for CAP-Round and also seek admission at XIE at the same time? Yes, you can. 8. When should I apply for the admission? We will notify by publishing an advertisement in local news papers and on our web site as well. You are requested to keep a track of the same. 9. What will be the permissible time slot to apply online? It will be mentioned on the front page of our web-site. 10. Does XIE have reserved seats for various categories as offered by the DTE? How many seats are reserved for the Roman Catholic students? XIE reserves seats ONLY for Roman Catholics. That is, 51% of for each branch is allotted to ROMAN CATHOLIC candidates. No other reservation policy is applicable to XIE. 11. Can a Roman Catholic candidate apply under OPEN CATEGORY? Yes, he/ she can. He/ she has to complete the required formalities for the same. 12. What is the merit criterion for the admissions? It is as outlined in the MHT-CET 2010 booklet. Kindly refer to it. 13. How does XIE offer admissions during the admission rounds? It is done strictly on the basis of MH-CET 2010 merit for Open as well as Roman Catholic Minority candidates of Maharashtra State. Only if vacancies exist after exhausting the above criterion, other eligible candidates are considered. 14. Does XIE have a specific quota for AIEEE candidates? Yes, XIE has 20% Management Quota, within that there is 5% quota for AIEEE. 15. How are AIEEE candidates considered for the admission? They are considered by AIEEE-2010 merit only. 16. What about the fee-structure at XIE? It will be as decided by Shikshan Shulka Samati, Maharastra State. Please refer to our website, www.xavierengg.com 17. Will the fees be revised? They are as per AICTE guidelines applicable to all the Engineering Colleges across the country. XIE follows just that. 19. Are there hostel facilities available at XIE? No. 20. Does XIE have NRI quota? No 21. Can NRI students or foreign students apply for admission at XIE? Yes. They can apply under management quota. 22. Is Domicile Certificate necessary for Minority quota? No. 23. Does XIE have reservation for physically challenged, J&K / women candidates? Yes, there are reservations and XIE follows the guidelines of DTE in admitting those candidates.
